Background: Traditional medicines have been potential in regulating blood glucose control, leading to herbal treatment to manage diabetes from long time. Diabetes is proving to be a major problem throughout the world in the recent years. In spite of synthetic medications available in the market, to reduce the ill effects of diabetes and its secondary complications, herbal formulations are preferred due to less side effects and low cost. Objective: The present study attempts in studying antidiabetic property of an unexploited plant, Exacum pedunculatum, belonging to Gentianaceae family, from the Western Ghats of India. Methodology: The dried plant material was subjected to extraction for isolating compounds which was purified to obtain biguanide compound and screened in silico to study the antidiabetic nature of the compound.
