Familial Partial Lipodystrophy of the Dunnigan Type (FPLD) is a rare autosomal, dominant disorder where selective loss of subcutaneous adipose tissue from the limbs and trunk, accumulation of fat in the neck and face is usually associated with variety of metabolic disorders. In this report we present a case of 24-year-old Polish normal body weight woman with FLPD phenotype and genotype, concomitant poorly controlled diabetes mellitus and severe insulin resistance. As a preparation for pregnancy insulin pump therapy has been administrated instead of multi-day insulin injections which resulted in immediate extreme improvement in reduction of daily insulin dose and diabetes control. To our knowledge this is the first report on insulin pump therapy in a patient with FPLD that resulted in and unanticipated reduction in daily insulin dose and good diabetes control.
