Abstract :

Microsurgery is a surgery under magnification. It deals with small caliber structures: Vessels, nerves and lymphatics. The microsurgery needs special tools: which are the magnifying loupes and the surgical microscopes. Also this surgery needs experimental training before starting it in the clinical practice. The microsurgery enables us to practice a different surgical aspects; as the replantation, peripheral nerve repair, upper limb brachial plexus management and free tissue transfer. In the replantation we can re-attach the amputated fingers and hands and return it to be functioning, also all the injured peripheral nerves can be repaired microscopically for regaining both motor and sensory functions. The microsurgery opened the door nowadays for early exploration and repair of the difficult cases of upper limb obstetric & traumatic brachial plexus cases with getting a marvelous outcome. The real achievement of the microsurgery is offering us to harvest different types of simple & combined flaps and transfer it to other parts of the body to reconstruct different simple & complex tissue defects after congenital, traumatic and post tumor resection patients with getting a nice functional and aesthetic outcome.
