Asphodelus microcarpus is a common Mediterranean plant, which is wildly found in Jordan. Chemical analysis of the rhizome revealed the presence of anthraquinones and anthraquinone glycosides. Romosin (a dianthrone C-glycoside) is the major compound and used as a reference standard in the preparation of the standardized extract. The extract has been tested for acute toxicity test, prolonged toxicity andmutagenicity. The extract did not show any toxic or mutagenic activity. The extract showed good results against certain bacteria, fungi and viral strains. The extract showed good results in the treatment of oral aphthous and similar disorders, comparing with reference known standards.
