A systematic review of the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication with respect to patient selection, outcomes and varying techniques. Laparoscopic fundoplication is increasingly performed for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. There are a number of varying techniques which have been developed around the laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication over the past several years. This talk will provide an analysis of the current literature regarding the efficacy of these varying techniques. Moreover, there will be a discussion on outcomes after Nissen fundoplication as well as how to choose the right surgical candidate to optimize those post-operative outcomes.
Jeffrey L. Eakin is a board certified general surgeon who did his General Surgery Residency at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He completed his Minimally Invasive, Bariatric and Robotic Surgery Fellowship at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Currently, he is a Minimally Invasive, Robotic Gastrointestinal and Trauma Surgeon in Salt Lake City, Utah. He specializes in the minimally invasive management of foregut disease as well as ventral hernia repairs and abdominal wall reconstructions, and he has a special interest in digital open source medical education.
