The aim of this study was to compare the effect of two foundations with different tones, on the moisture level of the stratum corneum . Foundations were selected from the market, under the following considerations: belonging to the same brand and line declared in advertising, being equal in composition except for the percentage of pigment, being one of light tone and another of dark tone. The moisture level assessment was conducted with the voluntary participation of 42 residents of Bogota, who were selected from the database of Effectiveness Evaluation laboratory. After an acclimatization process at controlled temperature and relative humidity, were defined areas in the calves for the application of the two products under evaluation, as well as the negative control, without product, called "white". Measurements were performed in the following times: before application, 30 minutes, 18 hours and 24 hours after the application, using the equipment SKICON 200EX, which measures the conductance of an electric current of high frequency (3.5 MHz). It was found that there are significant differences in skin moisture levels before and after foundations application. According to the results, significant differences were reported between moisture levels of both foundations, light tone and dark tone, being the first the foundation with the higher moisture level. In conclusion, the amount of pigment in the formula affects the parameter under study, and this result could be considered for the development of new cosmetic products.
