There are many challenges and controversies during the management of acute postoperative pain. Challenges include patients with chronic pain and comorbidities, the side effects of opioids, substances abuse, patients on psychotic drugs and measuring and monitoring the effects of analgesics. Controversies include the outcomes of regional anesthesia compared with general anesthesia, the optimal combination of analgesics and the use of gabapentinoids in acute pain. The talk will discuss most of the issues which may help in improvements of post- surgical pain management.
