Diabetes has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Mortality and morbidity due to myocardial infarction is increasing day by day among diabetes patients. This study aimed to identify awareness regarding myocardial infarction among diabetes patients. A cross-sectional descriptive study design was used. 100 diabetes patients in diabetes clinic care of tertiary hospital were selected purposively. Data were collected through interview by using structured questionnaire. Chi-square was calculated at 95.0% CI to show relationship between level of awareness and different factors. Among total participants, 54.0% were of 40-59 years (mean=55.3, SD±10.6), 52.0% were female, 30.0% were illiterate, 87.0% were married and 61.0% were from urban area. Only 79.0% had heard about myocardial infarction and 21% had never heard about it, 55.7% had adequate knowledge with median value of awareness score 39.0% (SD±6.9). Only 69.6% were aware from health workers. The study showed significant association of awareness level with their sex and economic status (P=-0.003). In conclusion, respondents under the care of diabetes clinic of such tertiary level hospital were not aware and health workers missed the opportunity of education and counseling on diabetes complication like myocardial infarction. pkapsara@gmail.com
