The genus of Ajuga L. or bugleweed belongs to the family Lamiaceae (the mint family), which also includes tall timber trees such as teak and aromatic or culinary species such as sage, thyme, mint, oregano, rosemary, lavender, basils and patchouli. Lamiaceae are also widely used in traditional medicine. The genus Ajuga consist of about 90 species, mostly distributed in the north temperate zone of the old world. The genus also occurs in South Africa and Australia. In flora of Turkey, Ajuga is represented by 14 species and 27 taxa. Some Ajuga species have been widely used for their diuretic, antipyretic, tonic, diaphoretic, astringent properties in the Turkish folk medicine. Ajuga orientalis total phenol content found as 32 � 1 mgGAE/ gr extract trolox equivalent antioxidant activity: 1.3mM (TeAC) has found at 1% concentration of extract Verbascoside, Echinacoside (or teupolioside) on LC-MS/MS analysis.
