Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease associated with chronic hyperglycaemia. Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) is the most prevalence accounting for more than 90% of cases due to obesity related complications and lifestyle factors. Pseuduvaria species of the Annonaceae family have been reported to display a wide range of biological activities such as anticancer activity. In this study, antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory activity were carried out using in vitro cell line models and in vivo models. This paper will describe the potential antidiabetic properties of two Pseuduvaria species, Pseuduvaria monticola (PMT) and Pseuduvaria macrophylla (PMC) against T2DM and their phytoconstituents that may contribute to the activity.
