Since 1987, Dr. Joshi has taught undergraduate postgraduate and doctoral students and trained doctoral and postdoctoral fellows in research. He has been mentoring graduates and medical students who now have successful careers in medicine academia and the pharmaceutical industry.
Joshi’s research areas are related to the bacterial pathogenesis. He has extensive experience in the areas of nosocomial infection, antimicrobial resistance and molecular and clinical epidemiology. He is also working in the area of host cellular responses to bacterial pathogens and/or their virulence products, notably of Rickettsia, Acinetobacter, MRSA, and Botulinum Toxins. Joshi has developed several in-vitro and in-vivo assays, and has expertise in immunocytochemical and immunohistochemical (IHC) detection systems and microscopy. Dr. Joshi and Dr. Brooks work together and have developed several research proposals jointly,and Surgical Infections Research (SIR) is one the major intiatives. Some of the current topics of research in the lab are: Exploring Antimicrobial effect of Floating Electrode DBD (FE-DBD) atmospheric non-thermal plasma.Antimicrobial/Antitoxin novel small molecule and natural product. Molecular and Clinical Epidemiology of Surgical Site Infections, ICU. Host responses and pathogenesis of virulence factors of MRSA, MDR-Acinetobacter, Botulinum toxin & Rickettsia.
