Biography

Dr. Caifu has had 26 years of biotech R&D and academic research experiences in molecular genetics and qPCR technology/application development. He is currently Vice President of Genetic Applications R&D and responsible for qPCR and Sanger Sequencing new application development at Life Technologies. Prior to re-joining Life Tech, Caifu was VP of Molecular Biology R&D at Pall Corporation focusing on rapid microbial detection for process monitoring in BioPharm, Food & Beverage, Water, and Medical Research. Caifu joined Applied Biosystems in 1998 where he held positions from Scientists to Sr. Director. He has invented a number of novel assay technologies including TaqMan MicroRNA and CastPCR assays for expression profiling, rare mutation detection and single cell analysis. He and his team have developed a wide range of TaqMan qPCR assays for genomic research, diagnostics and applied markets. He established broad & productive collaborations with academic institutes and biotech companies in microRNAs, stem cells, cancer, SNPs, and CNVs. Before joining the company, he received his postdoctoral training at Harvard Institute of Human Genetics and Ph.D. in Genetics at University of Missouri-Columbia. Caifu is an active member of professional organizations including ASHG, AACR, PDA, and IAFP and the author of 50 peer-reviewed papers, 8 book chapters, holder of 27 patents or patent publications, invited speakers for scientific conferences including AACR, Keystone, qPCR, ABRF and ESHG, invited reviewer for scientific journals, member of the MicroRNA Journal and WJSC editorial board, and winners of numerous awards including the ABRF Best Poster Award, the Best Inventor Awards at Applied Biosystems, the NIH Fellowship, the GOM Meritorious Graduate Student Award, and Research Fellowship & Excellence Award from the Japanese Matsumae Foundation. Before he came to USA, he was an Assistant Professor at the Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, China.
