Metabolic Syndrome and Its Role in the Onset of Diabetes Mellitus: A Case Report

Background: Metabolic syndrome, characterized by a combination of hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, and hyperglycemia, significantly increases the risk of developing diabetes mellitus (DM). Early identification and management of metabolic syndrome are critical to preventing the progression to DM.
Case presentation: A 52-year-old Caucasian male office worker with a history of hypertension, obesity, and dyslipidemia presented with symptoms of increased thirst, frequent urination, and unexplained weight gain. Clinical evaluation revealed a body mass index (BMI) of 32 kg/m², waist circumference of 110 cm, blood pressure of 150/90 mmHg, fasting blood glucose of 115 mg/dL, and HbA1c of 6.1%.
