Abstract

Optimizing Diabetes Management with Noninsulin Therapies in Hospitalized Children and Adolescents

Priya Sharma

Diabetes management in pediatric populations has evolved significantly,
particularly in the context of hospitalization. While insulin is the
cornerstone of diabetes therapy, noninsulin medications are emerging as
viable adjuncts in managing hyperglycemia in hospitalized children and
adolescents. This article reviews currently available noninsulin diabetes
medications, their mechanisms of action, indications, safety profiles, and
efficacy in the pediatric population. Through a comprehensive literature
review and analysis of clinical protocols, we aim to highlight the role of
these medications in inpatient settings. The findings support a multifaceted
approach to diabetes management, advocating for the integration of
noninsulin therapies in appropriate clinical scenarios.
