There have been many variations in the state's historical tornado frequency. Over the course of the 50 year study period, Middle Tennessee counties experienced the most tornadoes (105) but West Tennessee counties were not far behind and that state also had the county with the most tornadoes. Only 30 tornadoes were reported in all of the East Tennessee counties. It is likely that tornadoes were missed in all three areas, especially in places with smaller population densities. East Tennessee has the lowest odds of getting hit by a tornado, with Middle and West Tennessee having the greatest odds with no difference between the two.
